We all have “whys”, prayers that God hasn’t answered (yet), and seasons of waiting. There are times when we wonder why God doesn’t just step in and “do something”. In His Word, God is letting us know that He IS doing something, even when we can’t see or understand what He’s up to, or how He’s doing it. In Ecclesiastes 11:5 we read: “As you do not know what is the way of the wind, or how the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child, so you do not know the works of God who makes everything.”
Even with cutting-edge technology in the science of meteorology, who really understands “the way of the wind”? We don’t see its path, but we know it’s there. On the other hand, even using the latest 3-D sonograms to monitor an unborn baby, who can really tell us how “the bones grow in the womb of her who is with child”? Impossible to explain, isn’t it? Just because we can’t see it, doesn’t mean the unborn baby’s not growing!
The next time you or I ask “Why doesn’t Go do something?” let’s calm down long enough to remember this verse. We don’t have to know HOW He’s working; we just need to let Him assure us that He IS working. Although we don’t understand it and can’t see any evidence of His work, we can be certain that He will not finish it until he fulfills every promise, polishes every detail, and straightens everything that looks “crooked” right now. Yes, God is working. And the time will come when we say a wholehearted “AMEN!” to the words of Moses: “For I proclaim the name of the Lord: Ascribe greatness to our God…His work is perfect.” (Deuteronomy 32:3,4)
