What is the greatest asset we can possess in this life? (not counting the eternal inheritance we have in Christ) According to King Solomon, who asked for – and received – God’s wisdom, it is wisdom. In Proverbs 8:11 he wrote: “…wisdom is better than rubies, and all the things one may desire cannot be compared with her.” Later he states that it is better than fine gold and choice silver.
Centuries later, James, the half-brother of Jesus, wrote that godly wisdom is “pure, peaceable, gentle, willing to yield, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality and without hypocrisy.” (James 3:17)
We aren’t promised rubies, fine gold or choice silver. We are promised something more valuable: godly wisdom! “If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him.” (James 1:5) Let’s ask God for His wisdom. We will be very rich!
Prayer: Lord, thank you for offering us your wisdom. Make us rich with it, starting today. Amen!
