We’ve all done it. We said the wrong thing or said too much and got ourselves into trouble. We rant, ramble and blurt out what should be left unsaid. Then we try to dig ourselves out of the mess we made. Those situations validate the truth of Proverbs 10:19: “In the multitude of words sin is not lacking, but he who restrains his lips is wise.”
Wouldn’t it be better to wisely hold our tongue? We wouldn’t have to untangle the problems our words made. No amends, no regrets, no explanations. We wouldn’t have to apologize or seek God’s forgiveness for sinning with our words.
Let’s ask for God’s wisdom. He’ll teach us to keep our mouths shut. People around us will be relieved and we’ll be better off!
Prayer: Lord, help us restrain our words. Keep us from babbling a “multitude of words.” Amen!
